Why is the AUA 2021 Annual Meeting being rescheduled?

We recognize the AUA Annual Meeting is a major event for the global urology community, and many look forward to the innovation, education and the in-person collaboration and networking opportunities this event provides.

Given the persistent surges of COVID-19 and unknowns relative to the pandemic, hosting a meeting of our scope and size in the spring of 2021 remains unpredictable. Therefore, to minimize any risk to the safety and health of all meeting participants, the AUA 2021 Annual Meeting will now take place in person from Friday, September 10 – Monday, September 13, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Why should I attend the September meeting when the May 2022 meeting is around the corner?

The AUA Annual Meeting is a major event for the global urology community, and many look forward to the innovation, education and the in-person collaboration and networking opportunities this event provides.

We recognize COVID-19 has had a profound effect on the medical community. We also recognize the field of medicine is a fast-paced and ever-changing environment – one in which, leading-edge research, new guidelines and the latest developments in urologic medicine continue to advance, world-wide. Given the ever-changing nature of the specialty, and all the AUA has to offer, Annual Meeting attendees repeatedly report the knowledge they take from each meeting positively impacts their practices, patients and research.

Will there be a virtual option to the AUA Annual Meeting?

Each year, the AUA presents portions of its Annual Meeting virtually through webcasts and other virtual components. For 2021, the AUA is reviewing plans to make a limited number of sessions from the Annual Meeting available online via a mix of livestream and recorded webcasts. Further information about any virtual options will be posted to AUA2021.org once they become available.

Is there a chance the AUA 2021 Annual Meeting dates will move again?

Given the logistics that go into organizing a meeting of this size, the AUA has no plans to move the date of the Annual Meeting again. Unless forces outside our control mandate a cancellation, you can expect high-quality education, as well as opportunities to engage and collaborate in-person September 10 – 13, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I booked my hotel already. Do I need to cancel my hotel reservation?

If you booked your hotel through onPeak, the official hotel provider for AUA2021, you do not need to do anything, they will cancel your hotel reservation for May. Should you be attending AUA2021 in September, you will need to make a new hotel reservation, which will be available via AUA2021.org later this year.

What precautions/social distancing guidelines are being implemented to ensure the safety of all meeting attendees?

The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, partners, vendors and staff is the AUA’s highest priority. The AUA is currently working with our hotel partners and the Las Vegas Sands Expo Convention Center to ensure the AUA 2021 Annual Meeting complies with all federal, state and local guidelines, as well as any social distancing requirements.

We expect to have a number of safety precautions in place, including widespread availability of hand sanitizer, special attention to food/beverage and increased spacing in our sessions. As soon as these safety and social distancing guidelines are finalized, the AUA will post them online to the Annual Meeting website: www.AUA2021.org.

Do you plan to continue with a fall schedule for future Annual Meetings?

Our May 2022 Annual Meeting will occur as planned. Due to the breadth and size of the AUA Annual Meeting, our meeting dates are selected years in advance. While COVID-19 has shaken up this meeting season, we recognize it is an anomaly and have no plans to alter future meeting dates. We look forward to seeing you in September 2021, May 2022 and each consecutive spring thereafter.
